A
Call to the Bag Snatcher
You, the bag
snatcher!
Why did you
snatch my bag?
OK, you
snatched, but then why did you run?
Of course, this
is your name,
You always run
after snatching.
We need to
swagger here maybe,
Running doesn’t
befit the manhood.
Come here, don’t
run, let’s fight chest to chest.
The bag will
belong to the winner.
You, the bag
snatcher!
I feel sorry for
you,
Why did you
snatch, why did you run?
Maybe that’s
because you have a kid.
But nothing that
would satisfy your need
Would be in a
writer’s bag.
What did you
find?
- Papers, a lot
of papers.
- Two old
newspapers, they barely worth a cent, maybe less.
- A history
book, it barely worths 100 Cents, maybe less.
- 4 articles on
participatory democracy.
Oh, actually you
started your business
Just because the
country is not participatory,
Just because
there is no justice.
What else do you
have:
- An old
umbrella.
Oh, actually I
was thinking about throwing it to the garbage.
- A popeyed
raincoat,
It has ruptures
everywhere.
I hope you would
enjoy wearing it.
- My backup
eyeglasses which don’t look like anything
Will give you a
new perspective maybe.
Should I rejoice
since you didn’t
Take the ones I
was wearing, I don’t know.
- I have some
medicines, they barely worth 100 Cents, maybe less.
But maybe your
kid can use it.
- 2 tissues.
- In your next
operation
You can wipe
your sweat off by them.
- A bottle of
water.
- Take a rest,
share it with your friend.
All is OK, but
you bag snatcher,
You took my
60-pages-long notes on Korea.
Please give them
back.
Many columns
would have come out of them,
Maybe you have
already thrown them to the garbage bin.
Look at my face,
how a businessman
Can come out of
this face?
How would a
writer put
Light and
valuable items in his bag?
Look, actually
my Korea notebook was exactly like that.
My bag was old
too, take it with my blessing and enjoy it.
If your kid goes
to school,
He can use it as
his schoolbag.
I had been
prepared for that in Istanbul,
Everything is in
my pocket.
While I was
kissing a beauty in 2001,
My bag was
stolen at Bakirkoy seaside.
At that time in
my bag -I deplore-
I had an
economics book.
I had borrowed
that from a friend.
That means some
of the kisses
May be costly.
When I was
struggling at Istanbul-Ankara buses in 2004,
My mobile phone
had gone that time.
It was so shoddy
that I don’t think it could be resold.
You, the bag
snatcher,
Now you learned:
The only
valuable object with me
Is idea.
But look, what
you see,
It doesn’t serve
your purpose.
Nevertheless,
let me give you an idea:
Be like Robin
Hood next time, my friend.
Instead of me
who is like you,
Steal from those
who had robbed you.
Steal from those
who got rich by this way.
I promise you
that I will show you by my own hands,
I will show you
the ones who are the biggest bag snatchers of the country.
I have written
this call on a paper,
I put it to my
other old bag,
If you feel like
you’d like to snatch my bag again today,
This call will
reach nobody
Except you.
But
nevertheless, if you still feel like you’d like to snatch it,
Take it too with
my blessing and enjoy it.
From now on, I
will always carry this call in all my bags.
